Los Angeles, California I'm a twentysomething white male with ambitions to be a professional film critic and generally spend my days getting paid to watch movies and write about it. I try not to think too hard about how I want to build my life around talking about other people's creations and not mine. A compulsive reader and stubborn cineaste, I take an often contrary stance to my more fundamentalist peers and upbringing by celebrating the pursuit of the good, and the Good, in life, love, art and film. If you watched enough episodes of a few TV shows ("The Hungry and the Hunted," "The Cut Man Cometh," "The Body," "Waiting in the Wings," "Out of Gas," "April is the Cruelest Month," "20 Hours in America," "Colonial Day" for starters), you would understand me completely, and you'd also realize that much of my worldview and philosophical insights are heavily influenced by fictional works/programs, and many of the good things I've said in my life are just a regurgitation of someone else's imaginings. You People Are Just Bastard People
Am I the only one who noticed the typeface similarites between the new trailer for For Your Consideration and the works of Wes Anderson? It's like some subliminal trick to make me like the Christopher Guest movie, when I already like Guest, no tricks needed. What gives, Warners? Comments

I'm going to write a quirky, artsy comedy about the font Futura. All of the credits, however, will be in Times New Roman.

Keen observation, but kind of a stretch here, Dan.
Futura just happens to be one of the most-used typefaces in graphic design, and for good reason. I'm suggesting that what you've uncovered is simply chance, or the artist(s) relying on a tried-and-true classic. Plus, since Futura was designed midway through the Bauhaus, which ended just before the setting of "Home for Purim", its use here is certainly more period-appropriate than in Anderson's films. Besides, Christopher Guest may have six fingers on his right hand, but subliminal trickery of this sort just isn't something he would do. Re: Re: You People Are Just Bastard People

Yeah, I'm aware it's likely just a weird coincidence. But though I didn't know when Futura was created, it seems improbable that the trailer house that cut together the teaser thought, "We should totally use a period-appropriate typeface." I guess I just noticed it because Anderson uses it so often, and Anderon fans and Guest fans seem like two groups that overlap, and that the studio would want to capture them and their hard-earned cash any way possible, even if it's a mindf**k. Then again, maybe I just notice typefaces waaaay too much. That's probably the best explanation. Re: You People Are Just Bastard People

I was pissed when I realized that Wes Anderson uses the same typeface for the titles in all his movies, mostly because I do the same thing and I use Century Gothic Bold, which looks very similar to Futura. Damn fonts.

Man, I just checked, and those two fonts do look really similar. Sucks. Just tell everyone Wes Anderson ripped it off from you.

Yes, he is I and I am him. But don't go around calling me legitamite until you've seen those movies. Yikes. I'm a big supporter of the reviews and content on Pajiba, which is how I came upon your blog, and yes, I'm a frequent reader. We seem to share a love of all things Sorkin, Galactica, and Mars. Hopefully the next film I do will end up being reviewed at Pajiba, regardless of whether it's being panned or praised.
